Description

World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD) is an initiative of the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA), the largest organization dedicated to donor care and providing information for the facilitation of a Matched Unrelated Donor (MUD) search process. During WMDD, members all over the world organize events to thank blood stem cell donors globally. It is also a day to raise awareness among the general public and decision-makers about the importance of registering as a stem cell donor, and the impact of blood stem cell transplantation on a patient’s life.

The Saudi Stem Cells Donor Registry (SSCDR) is proud to announce that we’ve won the Originality Prize for World Marrow Donor Day 2022. Throughout WMDD, SSCDR utilized its social media platforms to help promote international stem cell donation using the same hashtags as WMDA in a number of ways, including designing and distributing templates to promote that event and raise awareness.

During WMDD 2022, SSCDR held several events and campaigns dedicated to promoting blood stem cell donation and giving gratitude toward donors nationwide and worldwide. Namely, SSCDR has advertised around 40 signs displayed at traffic lights in the streets of 17 different cities in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the skylines of Riyadh & Jeddah celebrated WMDD with SSCDR as well, by lightening some of the landmark towers with WMDD colors (Red, White and Blue).

There was also a rally held by SSCDR along with the Harley Davidson Club Chapter in Riyadh, in which the bikers displayed banners celebrating WMDD. In that rally, SSCDR performed an awareness campaign and registered several Harley Bikers who were interested in becoming MUDs as well. Furthermore, SSCDR conducted five other awareness campaigns in all five major regions of Saudi Arabia including the Central, Western, Eastern, Southern and Northern regions.

Lastly, In accordance with spirit of WMDD of giving back to our community, we’ve visited or heroes who are battling blood cancers at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital. Dr. Dunia Jawdat and SSCDR’s team gave gifts to the children being treated at the oncology ward.
